Monthly or mid week readings - Newcastle Gateshead Federated Account
As we come closer to the next first of the month I would appreciate a little guidance on how the difference of data input will affect the out put in the federated environment.
I understand that the Smeasure algorithms extrapolates information on an interpolated basis. However as different buildings take readings either monthly or weekly will comparisons work, e.g. if it is a five week month will there be a correlation with a building regularly taking weekly readings.
I am urging readings to be taken on Mondays. However Do the algotithms account for the actual day the readings are taken, say the thursday after a missed Monday and the following Monday? In another example a venue only takes its readings on the 18th of the month. My start date is the 1st March and will I hope be my aninversary date. They did take a 1st March reading but will the 18th march 2011 reading give the right result for annual consumption.
I wondered if in Future there might be a comparison page of the annualised M2 data as we are all benchmarked against the same typical and best practice parameters or a group analysis of the Data
Some venues are finding it difficult to combine gas and electricity every week but manage one or the other. My view is more frequent regular the better but does Smeasure interpolate the data to the most infrequent reading
One small comment as I am in putting a lot of the data at the moment is to request the possibility of a add meter reading button somewhere a the top of the page as often if I am inputting serveral weeks of on a page with a lot of data I have to scroll down to the bottom of the page of that meter data page to add another reading
The Human dimension of the Federated account this end is proving quite a steep curve but as data begins to take shape I can sense the performance of the different organisations and how their buildings work - it is very exciting. Over the next few months I hope to get more robust information about square meterage and staff numbers which I will up date as I go along
It would be nice if Federation members could see the whole site as guests and see how others members are doing. I wonder if this is something you had in mind
As always immense admiration for the Smeasure team I- wouldn't be without it
Best Edmund

Hi Edmund,
Thanks for the email - really helpful to get your feedback.
As you know SMEasure is geared around the weekly meter reading. It calculates the monthly based on summing the weekly data available. We have realised with your question that we need to intepolate back to the past month's reading to give users feedback on their cumulative results for the past month, quater (& year - we are going to be doing this). We are going to address this after Easter holidays (Rob is away for a week & just wrapping up some other technical development before he leaves). So for this month you won't have the comparison with weekly and monthly buildings - we will get this sorted in April so it is working for your next month.
Right now the only way to get comparison is with the A-G rating as this analysis is based on the heating degree days plotted against energy use and then the floor area provided. You will get a ranking of the building performance using the benchmarks. For monthly readers it will take a few months for comparison to be fair as they won't have many data points. Good idea having a page with the annualised m2 data for typical, best practice or group analysis.
For the weeks buildings are taking readings they should try to take all the readings -maybe once they start becoming more familar with SMEasure & it becomes more of a routine they will realise the benefit of doing them all together.
I think Rob said he has put a button on the top for add another meter reading. Should be a I think on the top right.
We are going to be working on activating the guest account functionality after Easter - because we agree it would be nice to have guest access to buildings.
Best, Catherine
