How is our building energy spend calculated in SMEasure?
To calculate your building’s energy spend for a particular time period we simply: -
Multiply the kWh of gas or electricity per meter in that time period by the tariff rate associated with the meter and then sum each meter by fuel type and in total to give you results.
The rate used will be the one you specified when setting up the meter or the default values set in SMEasure automatically.
The default tariff rates in SMEasure are:
• 7p/kWh for electricity
• 3.5 p/kWh for off-peak electricity
• 2.5p/kWh for gas
The calculations do not include standing charges or VAT nor do they take into account dual fuel rates (i.e. rates offered by utility companies providing you with both your electricity and gas) or a two-rate system (i.e. one rate for the first x kWh you use and a second rate once exceeding x kWh).
However, despite the limitations of SMEasure being able to calculate your energy spend accurately the feedback you are given will give be in proportion to your energy use. So you will get an reasonable indication of energy spend to help your business assess the extent of energy wastage and identify savings potential.
